NTA’s Eric Tompos Selected for Another Term on the IAS Technical Advisory Council

NAPPANEE, IN: Eric Tompos, the NTA Executive Vice President of Compliance, has been reappointed to the International Accreditation Service’s (IAS) Technical Advisory Council (TAC) Product Certification Agencies for a second term ending December 31, 2014. TAC members are senior managers selected from testing laboratories, inspection agencies, and from among recognized technical experts. The IAS Board of Directors authorize members of the TAC.

The TAC’s activities relate to IAS accreditation criteria and IAS Rules of Procedure. The TAC will also advise on international standards relating to accreditation and conformity assessment and other appropriate subjects as requested by IAS management.

Eric holds both bachelor of science and master of science degrees in civil engineering from Purdue University, and he is recognized as a Certified Building Official by the ICC. He has extensive experience in building products certification, materials testing and compliance. As Executive Vice President of Compliance, Eric’s current responsibilities relate to the development of policies supporting NTA’s building product certification activities and solving code compliance issues related to new and innovative building products.

NTA’s product certification mark is widely recognized as evidence of compliance to the highest standards, signifying a product or manufacturing facility has met the strict guidelines of an in-plant quality program, and it has completed the testing or met the building code requirements applicable to the product. Eric has worked with the ASTM on several projects and is a recognized leader in the ASTM and the ANSI consensus development process. B.J. Yeh, P.E., and Director, Technical Services Division of the American Planning Association (APA) said: “Eric Tompos is highly qualified to participate in any effort to develop standards that will be used by product certification agencies, regulatory bodies and government agencies.”
