David A. TomposNAPPANEE, IN: David Tompos, CEO of NTA, Inc., is the 2013 recipient of the prestigious Frank Walter Standards Award from MHI for years of outstanding efforts, unselfish dedication and volunteerism in helping to improve the codes, standards and regulations governing manufactured housing construction and installation, for creation of technical innovations, and for the service and leadership on MHI committees.

Mr. Tompos also serves as a member of the federal Manufactured Housing Consensus Committee (MHCC), a technical advisory committee to HUD. As chair of the Technical Structure and Design subcommittee, he works to improve the standards, protect consumers, and preserve affordability. His appointment is another indication of the standing that NTA has in the housing industry.

Mr. Tompos holds the International Code Council (ICC) certifications for commercial and residential inspection for all disciplines, which is an outstanding achievement. In addition, he has acquired an extensive knowledge of green building practices and energy efficient design. This has enabled him to meet the exacting requirements for being a Systems Building Research Alliance (SBRA) Certified Green Verifier for manufactured housing. His extensive knowledge and accomplishments in manufactured housing enable Mr. Tompos to be a frequent contributor to many MHI activities.

Mr. Tompos began his career at NTA as Director of Testing Services following graduation from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in computer and electrical engineering. In this position, he pioneered the development of the industry’s first electronic plan review software. This was a great technological breakthrough because it revolutionized the process of third party plan reviews. The development of the eDAPIA software resulted in significant time and money savings for the manufacturers. “Before leaving the NTA laboratory, Mr. Tompos started it on the path toward receiving accreditation by the International Accreditation Service (IAS) as an ISO/IEC 17065 Product Certification Agency.”

Under the leadership of Mr. Tompos, National Industry Award for “Supplier of the Year” from MHI was received by NTA on April 11 during the 2012 National Congress and Expo for Manufactured and Modular Housing. In presenting the award, Richard Jennison, President of MHI said, “NTA, Inc. is an industry role model and we are proud to recognize their ongoing contributions as a supplier to the manufactured and modular housing industry.”
