NTA/ICC-ES Partnership Creates Industry Consistency for SIPs

May 15, 2012

NAPPANEE, INDIANA: NTA, Inc., a certification agency and world leader in quality assurance testing for building materials and products, and ICC-ES, a nonprofit that specializes in technical reporting regarding code compliance, continue to partner on the development of new acceptance criteria for Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs). The partnership creates consistencies in how SIPs are tested and certified to the building code requirements but with limited impact on existing listing programs held by either agency.

NTA, Inc. and ICC-ES publicly announced the partnership program on July 20th 2011. Throughout the last several months the two organizations have been working on the new draft acceptance criteria that would replace both NTA’s and ICC-ES’s current programs for OSB with EPS SIPs.

“We are pleased with the progress of the acceptance criteria for SIPs and look forward to sharing it with the industry,” said David Tompos, President of NTA. “Our partnership (with ICC-ES) will continue to deliver on-going efficiencies and improvements in code acceptance. We see these types of collaborative opportunities as part of our mission which adds value to our clients and the industry.”

NTA, Inc. and ICC-ES plan to circulate a draft of the proposed criteria to industry for comment and support in the coming months.
