Important Dates ENERGY STAR Tax Credit

January 31, 2020

As you may be aware, late last year Congress extended the $1,000 tax credit for each ENERGY STAR home completed through 2020 and made the credit retroactive to include homes completed in 2018 and 2019. During this period, we launched Version 2 of the ENERGY STAR requirements. SBRA is currently developing program rules that will apply to Version 2 homes. We will post information as it becomes available.

The table below indicates when the two versions were/are in effect. Version 1 (the original ENERGY STAR requirements), can be used for homes with a date of manufacture before 2018 through May 20, 2020. Homes produced June 1, 2020 or later must follow Version 2.

The program accepted homes built to Version 2 if the home had a heat pump and the date of manufacture was after March 16, 2018. All Version 2 homes (electric and gas heated) manufactured after July 1, 2019 qualify for the ENERGY STAR label.

ENERGY STAR Version

Date of home manufacture

Version 1

Up to May 30, 2020

Version 2 (Only electric homes with heat pumps) After March 16, 2018

Version 2 (all homes)

We hope this clarifies the effective dates for the Versions.
