Minnesota Board of Electricity Rulemaking Notice

Please find the notification below as received from the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry regarding the intent to adopt the 2020 edition of the National Electrical Code. The Dual Notice, proposed rules and Statement of Need and Reasonableness, along with other information about the status of the rulemaking, are available in the rulemaking docket. The code update will go into effect without a public hearing unless 25 or more persons request a hearing and a notice of hearing if 25 or more requests for hearing are received. The comment period for this rulemaking ends at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2020. Please see rulemaking docket for additional instruction on written comments, questions and requests.

If adopted, the code update will be effective July 1, 2020, without a grace period. Buildings manufactured on or after July 1, 2020, will be required to comply with the new code.


The Minnesota Board of Electricity intends to adopt permanent rules governing the adoption of the 2020 edition of the National Electrical Code, Minnesota Rules, part 1315.0200.
