Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code to adopt 2015 I-Codes

August 1, 2018

Please be advised of the following Code Update info as received from Mike Moglia at PA. The Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code will adopt the 2015 I-Codes (2014 NEC) effective October 1, 2018; however, the PA Industrialized Housing Program will adopt the 2015 codes effective April 1, 2019.

A few important highlights and deadlines:

-The deadline PADCED has set for approved manufacturers to submit building system documentation to NTA Inc. for review and approval is January 15, 2019.

-All new industrialized homes entering the first stage of production on or after April 1, 2019 must be constructed in accordance with the 2015 codes and the 2014 NEC.

-The program still only covers “Residential” Structures. Program rules for “Commercial” Structures have not yet, nor will soon be, developed.

Further communication between NTA and Mike Moglia at PA, provided some clarification regarding the effective date of the code adoption and issued building permits.

-Should a building permit be issued (in accordance to the 2009 code) prior to the effective date of April 1, 2019, the industrialized home may still be produced to the 2009 code. However ONLY when a copy of the dated building permit is provided to NTA for verification and a copy be provided to PA to be placed in the manufacturers file.

-If no permit is issued prior to April 1, 2019, the home must be constructed to the 2015 code.
