January 22, 2018

The 2017 version of A117.1, Standard for Accessible and Usable Buildings is available for use and currently applicable in the state of South Carolina. Upon further review of the new edition of the code, significant changes were discovered. Many sections were separated into categories for Existing Buildings and New Buildings. The New Buildings sections now require larger sizes for circular turning spaces, T-shaped turning spaces, wheelchair space, etc.  Please take note of the changes in this code addition, the amount of space required to remain compliant in accessible buildings will increase.
